Summary Profile

Steve Podborski skied his way into the record books in a sport dominated by European teams.

Steve Podborski was born in Don Mills, Ontario (a suburb of Toronto). He grew up skiing on the slopes of Southern Ontario and racing in the local programs. In 1973 at the age of 16 he was named to the National Alpine Ski Team to race in the Can-Am Ski Series, the North American tour. In his first race on that tour in Whistler, B.C. he brought home a Silver Medal.

Pobdborski led the team dubbed the "Crazy Canucks" for their high-flying performances on the world's most dangerous ski hills.
He was the first non-European man to win an Olympic medal, and the first to capture a World Cup Downhill title. To this day, no other North American man has won the World Cup title, a feat that Podborski accomplished no less than eight times.

Steve lives in Whistler, British Columbia with his wife Kathy, son Ben and daughter Maddi, where he runs a successful business. He is currently involved with Right to Play as an Athlete Ambassador. Steve also has a passion for Mountain Biking (on his Canadian-made Rocky Mountain), Skiing, Snowboarding, Golf, Diving and especially playing all the above with his family.

Podborski remains active in the Olympic movement. He tackles life with the same fearlessness and enthusiasm as he attacked the world's most challenging slopes. Audiences are inspired and entertained by this energetic and inspirational speaker.
