An Evening With Ron MacLean

Summary Profile

Ron MacLean brings extensive experience, knowledge and passion for the game of hockey to his 22nd year as host of CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada. The nine-time Gemini Award Winner is also a two-time recipient of the George Gross Award, honouring excellence in sports broadcasting, and is also nominated for a 2008 Gemini Award for his role as host of the 2008 edition of CBC'S Hockey Day in Canada. MacLean has been recognized with nine Gemini Awards for his work with CBC, including Best Host / Broadcaster in a Sports Program for CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada (1992, 1994, 1998, 2001 and 2007) and CBC'S Hockey Day in Canada in 2004 and 2006.

Well known for hosting the 2008 Olympics in Beijing Ron did a superb job bringing us in and making us feel like we were part of the action. During 2002 he hosted Olympic Daytime at the Winter Olympics and, along with Don Cherry, MacLean was host of both gold medal Team Canada hockey games. He has also hosted the Late Night and Early Morning shows for CBC Sports' coverage of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Summer Games and went on to serve as a host of CBC's coverage of the 2001 IAAF Track and Field World Championships in Edmonton.

After joining CBC in 1986, MacLean's role expanded over the years to include hosting CBC's coverage of the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta and the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 1994. MacLean has also covered the Calgary Stampede, track and field competitions around the globe; Export "A" Skins Golf, and World Cup Hockey.

Ron MacLean can add author to his list of accomplishments with his new book out  Cornered: Hijinks, Highlights, Late Nights and Insights. Cornered is packed with inside accounts-some inspiring, many hilarious-from his early days as a part-time radio announcer and weather forecaster in Red Deer, Alberta, to his time hosting Hockey Night in Canada and the Olympics. Perhaps no other journalist has witnessed first-hand more Canadian sports milestones in the past quarter century. From Gretzky to Catriona, Mario to Salé and Pelletier, MacLean has been there with an eye for detail and an appreciation for what makes a great story.

Also a Level 5 referee for the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, MacLean plays hockey twice a week.
