Social Activism and the Quest to Be a Decent Human Being
What the Business World Can Learn From the Music World
Life is Waiting for You...
Raine Maida is the founding member and lead singer of the multi-platinum rock band, Our Lady Peace, and considered one of the best songwriters in music today. As a socially conscious global citizen, he is also known for his advocacy work with Apathy is Boring, and with War Child, who provide humanitarian assistance to war-affected children in countries around the world.
His band Our Lady Peace was formed in 1992, and since then the Canadian band has released seven albums, plus a live album and a greatest hits collection. The band has won 10 MuchMusic Video Awards - the most ever given to an artist or group. Outside of Our Lady Peace, Maida released his first solo album, The Hunters Lullaby, in 2007, and has written with and developed numerous indie bands, including, Men Women and Children, Green River Ordinance, Electric Touch, Sleepway, and Billy the Kid.
In addition to his success as a front man, Maida has written and produced songs for some of the biggest names in modern show business, including collaborating on three songs with American Idol winner David Cook on his self-titled album. Maida also shares songwriting credits with his wife, Juno Award-winning artist Chantal Kreviazuk. The talented duo contributed to three songs for American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson: Where is Your Heart?, the international hit Walk Away, and One Minute. They co-wrote the song, Permanent, for Cook. Other artists they have worked with include Carrie Underwood, The Veronicas, Martha Wainwright, Pink, Cheyenne Kimball and Katie Melua.
We All Get Lighter is Maida's second solo album, to be released in 2011. Songs off this album are being released separately with the song Bury Me with a Gun being the first one issued in August 2010. From then on, every few weeks a new song will be released until the release of the completed album.
Maida is a vocal supporter of War Child and has travelled with the organization to film documentaries in Darfur, Iraq, and Ethiopia. Visiting these war-torn countries gave him a different perspective, noting that some people in Darfur make $5 in an entire year, while he could easily spend $5 within seconds on a specialty coffee in North America. Maida doesn't want to lose sight of those experiences. While he doesn't wake up every day ready to save the world, he tries to do his part.
Raine Maida is a storyteller speaker who brings a thoughtful take on current events, pop culture, social activism, and the music industry. He claims he's not an entertainer but can be entertaining. He writes and records music because it's the evidence of life. He admires and is humbled by the fulltime activists he knows.
Maida will share how to start your journey to making a difference and being successful in today's world of global citizenship.
