The Honourable Mike Harcourt's belief in conservation and sustainable development has shaped his career both in and out of elected office. As former premier of British Columbia, Mayor of Vancouver and City Councilor, Mike Harcourt helped British Columbia earn its reputation as one of the most livable, accessible and inclusive places in the world. His focus on conservation and sustainable development - and his resolve to contribute to the transformation of cities and communities around the world - has played a significant role in promoting quality of life for those in Canada and abroad.
Though Harcourt's accomplishments in the public arena have earned the respect of many, the determination he demonstrated in his personal battle to overcome a spinal cord injury have won the admiration of countless others. In 2002, he broke his neck after falling six metres from a cliff on North Pender Island. Left partially paralysed, doctors weren't sure if he would recover. Harcourt fought back and today walks on his own.
Harcourt's presentations are heartfelt and sincere, and show listeners what can be achieved with focus, vision and a strong work ethic. Audiences will be inspired to hear his story, and will see the importance of setting goals in your personal and professional life. He brings optimism about the future to his listeners, while challenging them to take an active role in shaping their lives, and to contribute on a larger scale to their communities and the environment.
