Lesra Martin

The Power of One

Lesra Martin is an inspiring example of the power in each of us to make a difference. Functionally illiterate, Lesra realized that in order to achieve his dream of attending university, he would need to learn to read and write. His first book purchase (for 25 cents at a used book sale) was The 16th Round: From #1 Contender to Prisoner #45472. Lesra immediately became engrossed with Rubin "Hurricane" Carter's incredible autobiography of a man convicted of a triple-murder that he did not commit. Upon completing the story he wrote a letter to Carter who was 13 years into a triple-life sentence for a crime he did not commit.
