Designing the City for Children
Thanks to Larry Beasley, the City of Vancouver is known as one of the most livable cities in the world. He is internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s best urban planners.
In 1996, Beasley’s work was recognized among the “World’s 100 Best Planning Practices” by the United Nations, while the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada presented him with its Medal of Excellence as Advocate for Architecture in 2003. He is a fellow with the Canadian Institute of Planners and a regular advisor to cities around the world.
Beasley speaks about all aspects of city design and urban planning including managing urban development, the revitalization of cities, and efforts to evolve inner cities and suburbs. Well-versed in both the positive and negative trends that are shaping urban centres, Beasley also offers his critique of contemporary cities and his commentary on American cities from a Canadian perspective. Of special interest to Beasley is the idea of enticing families back to urban centres by designing cities to be suitable for both children and adults.
Using the Vancouver experience as a springboard, Beasley expands on lessons learned and offers a Canada-wide perspective that resonates well with audiences across the country.
