Summary Profile

Kyle Shewfelt achieved his ultimate goal on Sunday, August 22, 2004 in Athens, Greece when he captured Canada's first ever Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics with his Gold medal performance in the floor exercise. In 2006 Kyle won multiple Commonwealth Games medals, a bronze medal and best ever 6th place team finish at the World Championships and a silver medal at the prestigious World Cup Finals.

During a training session at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, Kyle suffered a devastating injury, breaking both of his legs just below the knees. Determined to contribute to his team's performance to qualify Canada for the Beijing Olympics, Kyle opted to stay in Germany to support his teammates from the sidelines for the entirety of the competition, where they qualified. Back in Calgary, Kyle embarked on the biggest comeback of his athletic career - overcoming two broken legs in just 11-months to qualify for Canada at the 2008 Games. By overcoming seemingly insurmountable circumstances, Kyle's comeback story has inspired as many people as he did when he won the gold medal four years earlier.

An engaging and seasoned speaker, Kyle creatively weaves his personal and motivational stories into topics ranging from overcoming challenges, taking risks to grace under pressure.

Shewfelt was recently inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and is currently working to launch the first annual Kyle Shewfelt Festival of Gymnastics in Calgary. ???He has been a re-occurring guest on the Rick Mercer Report and continues to work as a commentator for CBC throughout the year for various International Gymnastics events.

Retired after the Beijing Olympics, Kyle has strong availability leading into London 2012 and is eager to motivate audiences across Canada.
