She is also the co-founder of an innovation forum that connects technology, media, entertainment, and business communities, and the founder her own entertainment company which provides consulting services for new television programming strategies and specialty programming, for corporate, government and new media organizations, including Red Bull, Mozilla, Microsoft, Compaq, Trump International, the United Nations, the Department of Justice, and Nokia.

Other career highlights for Powell involve co-authoring the media section for the United Nations Plan of Action, and assisting in the production of the world-renowned TED Conference. Her company also produces cross-platform content with newsmakers such as Nelson Mandela, Prince Charles, Sir Richard Branson, Steven Spielberg, and Tom Cruise.

A fluently bilingual anglophone Montrealer, Powell made history when she became the first black Miss Canada in 1989 and then represented her country in the Miss Universe Pageant before embarking on her career in television. She worked as a VJ for MusiquePlus and MuchMusic in the 90s, and was also a business reporter for CablePulse 24.
