Ian Hanomansing brings a wealth of experience to his roles as host and reporter for CBC's The National and the former host of CBC's News Vancouver at Six, a one-hour newscast with a mix of local, national and international news. In 2007 he hosted special assignments for CBC, such as the environment special Feeling the Heat,a new CBC radio program, that inspired Canadians to get serious about the environment. Hanomansing also covered the Beijing Summer Olympics as the host of CBC's Pacific Prime. In 2008 he earned a Gemini Award as Canada's best news anchor for CBC news.
Prior to his current assignment, Hanomansing anchored Canada Now, the half-hour national news show. Hanomansing's extensive and award-winning broadcasting career has taken him around the world to cover the biggest national and international stories including the agreement-in-principle for the creation of Nunavut, the San Diego Heaven's Gate cult suicides, Vancouver's 1994 Stanley Cup riots, the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the 1997 hand-over of Hong Kong, and three Olympic games.
Hanomansing holds degrees in political science, sociology and law, and is the winner of six national university debating and public speaking championships.
