Summary Profile

Don Newman is the Chairman of Canada 2020, a non-partisan forum to further the political, social and economic well being of Canadians.

He is also a Senior Columnist with iPOLITICS.ca; Canada's leading online political news service, and Senior Strategic Advisor to Bluesky Strategy Group inc., a public affairs and communications firm.

Don Newman's celebrated career spans more than forty years as a public affairs broadcaster and journalist.

As Senior Parliamentary Editor of CBC Television News, he anchored live specials and his own national weekly and daily political affairs programs. He helped launch Canada's first all- news channel, and reported with The National, and was a foreign correspondent, with CTV and CBC, reporting from Washington, New York and the United Nations.

With intelligent insight and behind-the-scenes knowledge, an engaging communicator, he now shares his vision and experience with private and public sector audiences, clients and subscribers.

He is a Member of the Order of Canada, and a life member of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery, and has received numerous awards (including a Gemini lifetime achievement award in public affairs broadcasting, the Hyman Solomon Award for excellence in public policy journalism, the Charles Lynch Award for outstanding coverage of national affairs) and  honorary degrees. 

He currently sits on the Boards of Canada's National History Society and the Science Media Centre of Canada, the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom Day; as Chair of the Jury for the 2010 Canadian Foreign Service Officer Awards; and is a judge of Canada's National Newspaper and Charles Lynch Awards.

Recent organizations that have benefited from his work include Grainworld, the Nova Scotia Federal Council, the Canadian Gas Association, the Canadian Electrical Association. the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy,  the Institute on Health Economics,  Germany's Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Woodrow Wilson Institute in Washington D.C.
