Summary Profile

Aliya-Jasmine Sovani is a rising star in Canada's entertainment world. As a host and producer for MTV in Canada, she has interviewed some of the hottest celebrities on the scene, including Kanye West, Brad Pitt, Dave Navarro, and Perry Ferrell.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Ont., Sovani's passion has always been music and television. After graduating from the University of Ottawa and majoring in broadcast communications, she moved to Toronto to find fame and glory. Her ambition and initiative landed Sovani an internship with Fashion Television and also jobs with Star! TV and MuchNews. After paying her dues, all the hard work she put in paid off with a field producer and hosting gig with BPM: TV and later as a producer for MuchMusic's MuchOnDemand.

When she's not rubbing elbows with music's biggest names, Sovani dedicates time to philanthropic initiatives. She volunteers her time teaching English and social skills to Afghan children who've recently arrived in Canada, and in the future she hopes to assist young women who live in Afghanistan. Sovani recently travelled to Sudan to examine the issue of young girls being forced into marriage. As part of a partnership between MTV and Plan Canada, Sovani's experience was turned into a 30-minute documentary called Girls of Latitude.

Aliya-Jasmine Sovani has fought hard for respect and is more than meets the eye. She has resisted being stereotyped as the "pretty girl" or the "smart girl." Sovani is a strong role model who will reach out to audiences and prove that every woman has the ability to be both beautiful and accomplished.
