September 22, 2009

Terry Gould book Murder Without BordersMurder Without Borders: Dying for the Story in the World's Most Dangerous Places by Terry Gould has been awarded the Canadian Journalists For Free Expression's Tara Singh Hayer Award for Bravery in Journalism. The award is named after a murdered journalist and is usually awarded posthumously to a murdered journalist, but the judges decided unanimously to grant it to a living reporter this year. It's one of the most prestigious journalism awards in the world.

The award is one of three the CJFE give out at their annual International Press Freedom Awards Gala Ceremonies, to be held this year in December in Toronto.

The other award winners under the category International Press Freedom are the Moscow newspaper Novaya Gazeta and the Iranian journalist Jila Bani Yaghoub.

The theme of this year's awards is impunity.

Terry has recently launched the US edition of the book which is called Marked for Death: Dying for the Story in the World's Most Dangerous Places at Washington DC's Newseum and at the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York City. The US edition is published by Counterpoint.
