Dr. James Orbinski - Doctor and Humanitarian
As a doctor with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders, Dr. James Orbinski is a passionate and devoted humanitarian who accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 on behalf of MSF. In 1994, he agreed to serve as Chef de Mission for MSF during Rwanda's civil war. There, he and his team tried to help some of the thousands being killed by genocide. He is a Research Scientist and Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Political Science, the founder of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, a not-for-profit pharmaceutical research and development entity focused on the disease of the South, and recently he co-founded Dignitas International, an organization focused on community-based treatment, care and prevention of HIV in the developing world.
